Content is King
Written by: admin On April 2nd, 2010The content of a website is the soul of the site and is used as the front of your Internet business. It is the wording or text that is written on a website. Content is becoming more and more important as search engines focus on content and keywords in the content as well as it being the front of your Internet business. The content you have on your website is branding you or your business. It is very important to ensure your content is accurate, grammatically correct, spell checked and offers a user-friendly presentation for visiting customers. Other than the visual presentation of your website, your content is a company’s first impression with a customer online.
Content shows customers exactly who you are, what you stand for, and convinces customers to either follow you on a blog or purchase your product. From a customer perspective, content gives them the information they need about you or your company, what the company offers, how to purchase your product and gain other insight about the company and its processes. The content of your website is similar to visiting a brick and mortar store, but on the Internet. The Internet has changed the way businesses operate and focus, however companies still need to inform the customer’s visiting their site of everything they need to know or may even just want to know.
There are two main ways to obtain traffic to your website. One is Pay Per Click or PPC and the other is Search Engine Optimization or SEO. Both of these options can be successful in gaining traffic for your site, however there is a distinct difference between the two methods and that is money. PPC is a method where you would pay for your placement with the search engines. This is typically done with the larger search engines such as Google or Yahoo. You can choose how much you want to spend for gaining traffic and the search engine company will market for you based upon your budget. With PPC typically these results are going to show up either at the top of the results page or on the right hand side. Each time someone clicks on the link to your site, you are charged a fee. Once your budget for the month has been reached, your site will no longer show in those results. PPC can become costly if you are trying to drive a lot of traffic to your site and want to continuously have your link displayed within the PPC results areas.
The other option for obtaining traffic to your site is Search Engine Optimization or SEO. Unlike PPC, SEO is free if you do it yourself. However, you do have the option to pay someone to drive your search results higher by creating important keywords and meta tags for your site. With SEO, spiders crawl your website searching for keywords and content. Having keywords within your content will help increase your rankings as well since it gives you more opportunity to be crawled by the spiders. Having effective content that can generate traffic should include your keywords at least a couple times throughout your content as this will give you more opportunity to be crawled. One thing to keep in mind is not to go overboard with the keywords within your content, it can start to look like keywords are just randomly placed, thus cutting down on effective content.
Since search engines have changed over the years as to what they focus on and content is king these days it is important that your website content is substantial. Blogs are a good example at having substantial content that can be crawled. Blogs constantly have fresh information being posted on the site and typically the articles are going to include keywords. Therefore, you will have keywords all over the blog without it looking like keywords were manually placed there and interfere with the actual content. Even if you do not have a blog, the same general principles apply with a website as well. After all, content is king!
